Walk Across Texas Update!

Hello, everyone!  Walk Across Texas is currently going strong!  Here are our current statistics:
We have 4 clubs currently participating with over 20 members making an effort to improve their health.
Of the miles I have received, since February 1st, 271.35 miles have been reported, totaling over 15,000 calories burned!  That 271 miles is just about the distance from El Paso (Farthest town west in Texas!) to Odessa (Not nearly as west!)  It would take about 4 hours to drive that far!
Great job, everyone!  Remember to continue sending me updates from your team, and feel free to join in at any time if your club has not started yet!
Your challenge for this week is, in addition to the 30 minutes of exercise a day, make an effort to drink 8 glasses (2 liters!) of water each day.  Doing this will help you to stay hydrated in this lovely February heat!
So what are you waiting for?  You have miles to go walk!

Walk Across Texas Week One!

Hello, Walkers, Joggers, Dancers, Boxers, Bikers, Skaters, Skippers, and all others!

Walk Across Texas began on Monday, so I hope you've all been up and active!  Now that we're in full swing, please remember to be totaling up your miles every day using the handy dandy calculator (http://walkacrosstexas.tamu.edu/anewat/myaccount/team/my_wat_team/wat_mileage_equivalents.php) and then on Sunday you will send your totals from Week One to your Team Captain!  It's that easy!
And remember, it only takes about 30 minutes of activity 5 times a week to achieve the goal!  And you don't even have to just walk!
For example, today I walked my dog (2.5 Miles) and played 30 Minutes of the Just Dance Wii Game (3.65 Miles), for a total of 6.15 Miles today.  If I continue this routine every day this week, by Sunday I could send to my Team Captain (Me!) that I had 'Walked' 43.05 miles for Week One.  If I did that every week of the challenge, by the end I would have a whopping 344.4 Miles!  Almost half the distance across Texas!

Your challenge this week is to be active in some way at least 30 minutes a day.  This could include Walking, Jogging, Biking, Boxing/Karate, Gardening, Sports, playing active Video Games (Such as Just Dance or sports games), taking a Zumba class, or anything else that makes you sweat!

And remember, if your 4-H club wasn't able to begin with us on Monday, don't worry about it!  Start at any time, just be sure to shoot me an e-mail with the names of those participating and your start date.  I'll check back in with your team each week of the challenge to see how y'all are doing!
So what are you waiting for?  Go get some miles in!
